What you type stays on your phone. We only see it if you press "Send these to us on WhatsApp" or "Send them by email form" further down. It is kept on this phone, so it is here when you come back.

How it works

  1. Type your place and your chicken and ribs.

Example. A phone showing the step "What do you sell?" for Themba's Flame Grill: a line and its price being typed, and the menu beside them with the lines typed so far.
  2. Pick how it looks.

Example. A phone showing the step "Pick how it looks": the menu for Themba's Flame Grill on the left and the same words in other looks on the right, one of them chosen.
  3. Add a photo of your food, if you like.

Example. A phone showing the same step after a photo was added: the menu for Themba's Flame Grill now has a photo of a steak on it.
  4. Share it on WhatsApp, or print it.

Example. The finished menu for Themba's Flame Grill filling a phone screen, and the same picture printed on a page stuck to a wall.

The pictures show examples with made-up places and prices.

Run a weekly deal? Put it on a free page people can open.

Listing is free. Nothing goes on the page until you have checked it and published it.

We put weekly deals on a page, not whole menus: a special with its price and the days it runs. If you run one, you can send it to us, and where we can check the place is yours we set it up for you to check and publish.

To make sure it is really your place, we set it up with the email address your place shows publicly, on its website, Google or Facebook. If it shows no email, we phone the number it lists and ask you to confirm by email. A phone call alone is not enough. So we can only set up a page when we can check the place is yours from something it already shows publicly. If your place has nothing online yet, we cannot set one up from here, and the poster maker stays free to use. If you message us on WhatsApp, message from the number your place shows publicly.

Add your place name and an item to send them to us.

WhatsApp opens with your message ready, and the form opens filled in. Nothing is sent until you press send. See an example page

You get a picture to post, and a bigger one to print on a normal printer page (A4) or half a page (A5), not a Word file. Free, no account, and nothing is uploaded: the picture is made on your device.

What goes on a grill house menu

1Quarter and half
Flame-grilled chicken is sold by the quarter, the half and the whole bird. Under All options, tick "Two prices on each line, like Small and Large" for the chicken section and name the two prices Quarter and Half. The whole chicken goes on a line of its own or into the family pack.
2Chicken only, with a side, with a side and a roll
Grill houses price the same piece three ways: on its own, with chips, and with chips and a roll or a drink. Make each way a line, as the example does, and the two columns give the quarter and the half for each.
3Ribs and wings by weight and count
Ribs are sold by weight and wings by the piece, so both go in the name: "Pork ribs 300g and chips", "Wings (6) and chips". Livers, strips and a prego roll belong in the same section.
4The family pack
A pack for the family is a list: a full chicken, two large chips, four rolls. Type the list as the name of the item, with the counts. The line wraps onto a second row and its price stays whole on the right.
5Heat and flavour
Lemon and herb, mild, hot, extra hot: the customer picks at the counter. Say the choices once in the box for where you are and when you are open. The maker draws no chilli scale and no flame beside a dish.
6Sides, single and to share
Chips, spicy rice, coleslaw, pap, a roll. If sides come in a single and a sharing size, give the Sides section two prices and name them. Otherwise one price each, with "large" in the name where it matters.
7A ribs night or a chicken special
For a special on one day, open All options and choose Specials at the top, type the plate with its weight, its price and the day. With one special the poster draws the dish and the price as large as the page allows.
8Photographing chicken off the grill
Grilled chicken looks dry in a hard light. Photograph a half bird straight off the grill, in daylight, at a low angle so the char shows, with chips beside it. The maker frames one photo under your name.

Grill house menu design ideas

Six ways one grill house menu can look: black boards with orange, gold or yellow, a bright orange flyer and a cream card. Tap a picture to start from it.

Menu board in black and orange, tall shape
Black and orange are the colours of the flame-grill menus this look was drawn from. The board has a double line round its edge, a small flame under the name and every price in orange, with Quarter and Half as the two columns.
Shisa nyama look on black wood, tall shape
Black wood with gold slab lettering and a flame is the braai version of the same board. It suits a grill house that also sells meat off the fire by weight.
Steakhouse card look in red, A4 to print
A cream card with red slab capitals prints with little ink, so it is the one for an A4 page on the counter or in a delivery bag.
Menu board in black and orange, square
The same board on a square, for a post. Eleven lines fit in two columns under the name.
Shisa nyama look in orange, A5 to print
Bright orange with a checker edge is the loud flyer. At A5 it is a handout for the taxi rank or the till.
Slate in black and yellow, A4 to print
Flat black with yellow labels, on A4. Plain, and readable from across the shop.

A grill house menu, step by step

The example has four sections. "Flame-grilled chicken" has three lines, chicken only, with chips, and with chips and a roll, each with a Quarter and a Half price. "Ribs and wings" has ribs by weight, six wings and chicken livers. "For the family" is one pack with its contents counted. Sides has four lines. The foot gives the flavours and the hours.

Tips

  1. Type Quarter and Half once, as the names of the two price columns.
  2. Give ribs in grams and wings as a count.
  3. Write out what a family pack holds, down to the rolls.
  4. Name your heats in your own words; the picture shows them as typed.
  5. Print the cream card for the delivery bag and post the dark board on Status.

Questions

Can I show chicken only, with a side, and with a side and a drink as three prices on a line?
No, a line holds two prices. Make each of the three a line, and use the two prices for the quarter and the half.
Can I show a quarter, a half and a full chicken?
Use Quarter and Half as the two columns and add the full chicken as its own line or as part of a family pack.
Is there a heat scale or chilli sign?
No. Name your heats in words in the note at the foot of the menu. The maker draws no sign beside a dish.
Can I make a poster for a ribs special?
Yes. Open All options and choose Specials at the top and type the ribs with their weight, the price and the day.
