What goes on a shisa nyama specials poster
- 1One special to a line
- Each special is a line: what it is, its price and its days. Put the meat first, with the unit in the name, such as 500g or per portion. A Story or a print holds up to eight specials, and a square holds five.
- 2Say what the price is for
- Raw for the customer to braai, or cooked? Write it in the name, for example "Boerewors, 500g, raw". People ask, and it saves an argument at the fire.
- 3Pick the days
- Every special starts with all seven days ticked. Switch "Every day" off and tap Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and the poster says Fri to Sun for you.
- 4Add a photo of the fire or a plate
- The Photo, Circle and Split looks are built round a picture of your food, and they appear under The picture once you add one. Your photo stays on your device.
- 5Hours and where to find you
- Use the Heading box for your days, such as "Fri to Sun", and the "Address, hours or a note" box for a landmark or opening hours. Add a phone number and tick WhatsApp if people can message it.
- 6A menu as well
- For a full price list, with meat, plates, sides and drinks in sections, switch to Menu or price list at the top of the form. It uses the other looks, and nothing you typed is lost when you switch back.
- 7Event nights
- A sound night or a match day is its own poster. Use the Heading box for the date or the event, type only the specials for that night, and save it as a separate picture. Change it back afterwards for the normal weekend poster.
- 8Meat by weight, plates by name
- Sell meat by the portion or by weight? Say which in the name, "Lamb chops, per portion", and give each plate a name of its own. The poster shows exactly the words you typed.
Shisa nyama poster design ideas
Six ways one weekend specials poster can look. The first three use a stock photo of a steak that comes with this page, not a braai; add your own photo and they use that instead.
- Photo look, Story size
- The Photo look puts your own picture across the top and the specials under it. It is the one to try first when you have a good picture of the fire.
- Circle look, Story size
- Circle sets the photo in a round frame, which suits a plate or a pot seen from above.
- Split look, square
- Split gives the top of a square to the photo and the rest to a plain list, so four specials fit with a picture.
- Kasi look in charcoal, no photo
- No photo yet? The Kasi look needs only words: tilted white day labels and yellow price tags.
- Shisa nyama look, A4 to print
- The Shisa nyama look is dark wood with gold names and prices and a flame by the heading. On A4 it is made to be printed and put up at the gate.
- Green chalkboard, Story size
- Chalkboard gives each special a circled price, like a board written for the day.
A weekend poster, step by step
The pictures above come from four specials with Friday to Sunday ticked: boerewors by the 500g, lamb chops with pap and chakalaka, a chicken quarter with pap, and a cold drink that costs extra with any plate. Type the first special, tap Add another special for each of the rest, and watch the poster fill in beside or above the form.
Tips
- Type the unit with every meat price, in the name.
- Choose only the days you are open, so the poster says just those days.
- Leave off what you cannot honour. Do not write "all you can eat" unless you mean it.
- A photo of your fire or a full plate beats a stock picture. Take it in daylight, from above, and wipe the lens.
- Make a separate poster with its own heading for an event night, with the date in the heading.
