What goes on a chicken shop menu
- 1Chicken sizes: quarter, half and whole
- A chicken shop sells by the piece: a quarter chicken, a half chicken and a whole chicken. Under All options, tick "Two prices on each line, like Small and Large" for the Chicken section. Type Grilled and Fried in the boxes "First price is" and "Second price is".
- 2What comes with the chicken
- Write what comes with it in the name, like "Quarter chicken with chips". Each price on that line covers everything in the name.
- 3Family packs and party packs
- A family meal for the weekend is two halves with sides, a party pack is a whole chicken with three sides. Write what is in it: "Family pack: 2 halves with 2 sides". Count the pieces in the name.
- 4Sides in their own section
- Put sides such as chips, pap, salad and coleslaw in a section of their own so a customer can add to their chicken. One price per side, and keep the names short.
- 5How it is cooked
- Flame-grilled, fried or rotisserie: if the cooking matters, say it in the box for where you are and when you are open.
- 6Extras and combos
- A combo of chicken, chips and a cold drink can be one line with a single price. An extra side can be its own line.
- 7A photo of a cooked chicken
- One chicken, whole or a quarter on a plate, in daylight, fills the frame better than a menu of words. Under All options is a box for your photo and your logo. On a square, or with more than twenty items, the menu is drawn without the photo.
- 8Where the menu goes
- Post the tall picture on WhatsApp Status. Print the printer page (A4) for the window and the wall by the till, and the half page (A5) for the counter.
Chicken shop menu design ideas
Six ways one chicken shop menu can look: a black board with a flame, a red board with checks, dark wood with a flame, a cream card in red, a black board with mustard tabs and a black board with a gold frame. Tap a picture to start from it.
- Black board with orange headings, A5 to print
- Black and orange, with a flame under the name. Section names run over an orange rule and each price sits in orange on the right.
- Red with yellow tabs and checks, A4 to print
- Red and yellow with a row of checks along the top and foot, the bright look of a fried chicken counter. A4 for the window.
- Dark wood with orange lettering, A4 to print
- Dark wood with orange lettering and a flame, the look of a braai stand, for a chicken shop that grills over coal.
- Cream card in red, A5 to print
- The cream card in red slab capitals, the way a grill counter sign is painted. It reads quietly next to a bright board.
- Black with mustard tabs and checks, A5 to print
- Black with mustard tabs and a check border, the look of a diner counter. A5 for a table or the counter.
- Navy board with amber prices, A5 to print
- Navy with an amber double keyline and amber section names, in one column on an A5 page for the counter, so Family meals stays whole under its name.
A chicken shop menu, step by step
The menu has four sections. Chicken has three sizes with two prices each, grilled and fried. Family meals has two packs with their contents counted in the name. Sides has four options with one price each. Drinks has two sizes of cold drink. The line at the foot says you can have the chicken flame-grilled or fried, and that the shop is open daily.
Tips
- Say the piece: quarter chicken, half chicken, whole chicken, not just "chicken".
- Write what comes with the chicken: "with chips", "and pap".
- Keep side names short: chips, pap, salad, not "our special spiced chips".
- Count the pieces in a family pack: "2 halves, 2 sides", so the customer knows the size.
- If you have a good photo of a cooked chicken, add it. A photo reads better than words.
Sizes and printing
- Tall, for WhatsApp Status
- Tall like a phone screen. Best for WhatsApp Status and for Stories.
- Square, for a post
- Square. Best for a post on Facebook or Instagram.
- Printer page (A4)
- A4 is the size of a normal printer page. Print it at home or at a print shop. A home printer leaves a thin white edge.
- Half page (A5)
- A5 is half of a normal printer page. Good for a counter. A home printer leaves a thin white edge.
Questions
- Can I show grilled and fried prices for each chicken size?
- Yes. Under All options, tick "Two prices on each line, like Small and Large" for the Chicken section, then type Grilled and Fried in the two price boxes. Each chicken size then has two prices.
- What goes in a family pack?
- A family pack is two halves and two sides, or a whole chicken and three sides. Type what is in it in the name, such as "Family pack: 2 halves with chips and pap".
- Can I list the sides in the chicken name?
- You can, but it makes the name long. Better to have Chicken in one section and Sides in another, so the customer adds the sides they want.
- What size does a printed chicken menu come out at?
- The printer page (A4) is the size of a normal printer page, and the half page (A5) is half of that for the counter. The print option is in the Get your picture step, and the file is a picture.
- Can I add my logo or a photo of chicken?
- Yes, both are optional, and a photo of a cooked chicken suits the board. They are not kept for the next visit, so add them again when you make one.
What you type is kept in this browser on this device until you clear your browser data, so you can come back, change a price and save a new picture. A photo and a logo are optional and are not kept for the next visit.
