How it works

What goes on a Christmas menu

1Courses in the order they come
Put each course in its own section, starters, mains and desserts, in the order a guest eats them. A guest reads the list once and knows what comes next.
2Food to order for home
A whole gammon or a box of mince pies is sold to order, so give it a section of its own at the foot. Each dish to order gets a line and a price of its own.
3A booking date in the line
The line at the foot says when to book and for what time, such as "Christmas Day lunch, 12 to 3. Book by 18 December". A guest sees it before they phone.
4Check each price before you post
A Christmas menu is often read for weeks, so check every price on it. If one moves, change the price in the line and save a new picture.
5Where the menu goes
Post the tall picture on WhatsApp Status, and print the printer page (A4) for the window or the half page (A5) for a table. The picture is for showing; it does not take bookings or orders.
6Roast bird and gammon
A roast bird or a gammon for the table can sit under the mains, with the sides named in the line, so a guest knows what comes with it. Keep the sides short and name them, such as roast potatoes and gravy.

A Christmas menu, step by step

The menu has four sections: starters, mains, desserts and food to order for home. Type each dish with its price, then type the booking line at the foot. The dishes and prices in the example are made up. The booking line names the day and the time, so a guest knows when the table is held. Each dish has its price on the same line, so nothing is hidden on a second page.

Tips

  1. Put the courses in the order a guest eats them.
  2. Give the food to order for home a section at the foot.
  3. Say the booking date and the time in the line at the foot.
  4. Check each price before you save the picture.
  5. Keep the dish names short enough to read from a table.

Questions

Can I make a Christmas menu for a takeaway, not a restaurant?
Yes. Use the same sections, and put the order date in the line at the foot. The picture does not take orders, so a buyer phones or messages you.
Can I add a photo to the menu?
A photo of the dish is optional. Add one from the box under All options, or leave it out.
Can I change the prices after I post it?
Yes. Open this page, change the price in the line and save a new picture. The old picture stays where it was posted, so post the new one as well.
Which size should I print a Christmas menu?
A4 is a full printer page, for the window or the wall. A5 is half of one, for a table. Print it is on the Get your picture step.

What you type is kept in this browser on this device until you clear your browser data, so you can come back, change a price and save a new picture. A photo and a logo are optional and are not kept for the next visit.

Sizes, printing and saving

You get a picture to post, and a bigger one to print on a normal printer page (A4) or half a page (A5), not a Word file. Free, no account, and nothing is uploaded: the picture is made on your device.

Tall, for WhatsApp Status
Tall like a phone screen. Best for WhatsApp Status and for Stories.
Square, for a post
Square. Best for a post on Facebook or Instagram.
Printer page (A4)
A4 is the size of a normal printer page. Print it at home or at a print shop. A home printer leaves a thin white edge.
Half page (A5)
A5 is half of a normal printer page. Good for a counter. A home printer leaves a thin white edge.

How do we check it is your place?

To make sure it is really your place, we set it up with the email address your place shows publicly, on its website, Google or Facebook. If it shows no email, we phone the number it lists and ask you to confirm by email. A phone call alone is not enough. So we can only set up a page when we can check the place is yours from something it already shows publicly. If your place has nothing online yet, we cannot set one up from here, and the poster maker stays free to use. If you message us on WhatsApp, message from the number your place shows publicly.
