What goes on a butchery specials poster
- 1Cuts by the kilogram
- A butchery special is a cut of meat and its price per kilogram. Type the cut name with "per kg" in it, then its price on the same line.
- 2Braai packs and bulk deals
- A weekend braai pack needs its contents counted: "Braai pack: boerewors, ribs, steak, 2kg". A bulk pack to take home is the same: "Family bulk pack: mixed cuts, 5kg". Type the count in the name.
- 3What is in the pack
- Say what the pack holds, one piece after another. "Braai pack: steak, boerewors, ribs" tells the customer what is in it. Keep the names short and let the count explain the size.
- 4The days the cut is in stock
- Under each special, choose the days it runs, Monday to Sunday. Leave out the days you do not have the cut in stock, so the poster never promises a cut you cannot sell.
- 5Price per unit or per pack
- Write "per kg" in the cut name so the customer knows whether the price is per kilogram or for the whole pack. The same goes for "500g of mince" or "per portion".
- 6A specials poster or a full butchery price list
- This page makes the specials for the week: the cuts and packs on offer, with the days they run. For a full butchery price list, every cut and its price, the price list template is the better fit: it sets out a long list under headed sections, each item with its price on the right.
- 7Where it goes
- Post the tall picture on WhatsApp Status on the Monday, when the week starts. Put the A4 page in the window, where people walking past can read it, and the A5 page on the counter.
Butchery specials poster design ideas
Six ways one week of butchery specials can look: a red cream card, a near-black card with gold, a dark wood board with a flame, a navy board with coloured day tags, a green cream card and a dark card with silver figures. Tap a picture to start from it.
- Cream card in red, tall shape
- A cream card with red slab capitals and each price on a round red badge, the way a butcher paints a sign. Tall, so it posts well on WhatsApp Status.
- Dark card with a gold frame, A4 to print
- Near black with a thin gold frame and serif lettering, the look of a traditional butcher price list. Printed on A4 it sits in the window.
- Dark wood with orange lettering, A5 to print
- Dark wood with orange lettering and a flame, the look of a braai stand. It suits a butchery that sells braai packs, and A5 fits the counter.
- Navy board with coloured day tags, square
- Navy with gold lines and coloured day tags, so one run of days reads apart from another at a glance. Square for a post.
- Cream card in dark green, tall shape
- The first card in dark green instead of red, for a butchery whose sign is green. Tall for WhatsApp Status.
- Dark card with silver figures, square
- A dark card with silver figures, a quiet look for a butchery with a classic counter. Square for a post.
A butchery poster, step by step
The example has four specials: rump and fillet steaks that run Monday to Saturday, a braai pack for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and a bulk family pack for Saturday and Sunday. Type each cut or pack with its price, then choose the days it runs. The line at the foot says the butchery takes orders.
Tips
- Say the cut clearly: rump, fillet, neck, brisket. The price is the kilogram price.
- A braai pack for the weekend is three or four cuts that cook together on the fire.
- Name the pieces in the pack: steak, boerewors, ribs. Count them if the pack holds a number of pieces.
- Pick only the days you have the cut, so the poster does not promise stock you lack.
- Use the line at the foot for when you are open or how to order.
Sizes and printing
- Tall, for WhatsApp Status
- Tall like a phone screen. Best for WhatsApp Status and for Stories.
- Square, for a post
- Square. Best for a post on Facebook or Instagram.
- Printer page (A4)
- A4 is the size of a normal printer page. Print it at home or at a print shop. A home printer leaves a thin white edge.
- Half page (A5)
- A5 is half of a normal printer page. Good for a counter. A home printer leaves a thin white edge.
Questions
- Can I show the price per kilogram and per portion?
- A line holds one price. Show the main unit, "per kg" in the name, and put the portion size in brackets if you sell portions as well.
- Can I list the cuts in a braai pack on the poster?
- Yes. Type them in the name, one after another: "Braai pack: steak, boerewors, ribs, 2kg". Keep it short, two or three pieces.
- Can I put my butchery logo on the poster?
- Yes, if you want. Under All options there is a box for your photo and your logo, and you can leave them out. They are not sent to us.
- What size does a printed butchery poster come out at?
- The printer page (A4) is the size of a normal printer page, and the half page (A5) is half of that. The print option is in the Get your picture step, and you get a picture file, not a Word or PDF file.
What you type is kept in this browser on this device until you clear your browser data, so you can come back, change a price and save a new picture. A photo and a logo are optional and are not kept for the next visit.
