What goes on a lunch special poster
- 1One dish, one price
- A special poster works because it is simple. Lead with the dish and the price. The poster draws them in the biggest type, and the fewer specials you add, the bigger it gets.
- 2Sunday lunch, Mogodu Monday and other days
- Switch "Every day" off under a special, then tap Monday for Mogodu Monday or Sunday for Sunday lunch. The poster says the day in words, so the same poster works every week.
- 3What is included
- Spell it out: "with pap and chakalaka" or "with a cold drink". If a side costs extra, say so in its own special, as the example does for the cold drink.
- 4Eat in or take away
- The "Address, hours or a note" box can say "Eat in or take away" or "While stock lasts", if that is true. It is drawn at the foot of the poster, above your phone number.
- 5Several lunches on one poster
- Add another special for each day or dish, up to eight on a Story or a print and five on a square. Each shows its own day. If all of them run every day, the days are left off the lines.
- 6Heading and place
- The Heading box is a line of its own, apart from your place name. Use it for "Lunch specials", "This week" or the name of the day.
- 7A poster for Sunday lunch alone
- If Sunday lunch is the only special, leave one line in the form and tick only Sunday. With one special, the dish, the price and the day are drawn as large as the picture allows.
Lunch special poster design ideas
Six ways a Sunday lunch or Mogodu Monday poster can look. Tap one to start from it, then type your own dish and price over the example.
- Sunday lunch look, Story size
- The Sunday lunch look is a cream card with a green frame, a serif title and dotted lines to the price. It is made for exactly this poster.
- Shisa nyama look, Story size
- The Shisa nyama look is red with a checker edge and yellow price circles. It makes a special look like an event.
- Kasi look in blue, square
- Kasi gives each day a tilted white label and each price an orange tag, so the day and the price are the first things read.
- Chalkboard, A4 to print
- Chalkboard with circled prices, set for an A4 print for the door or the counter.
- Bold look in plum, Story size
- Bold puts each special on its own rounded card with the price in a bubble. With only two or three specials the type can be very large.
- Big headline look in blue, square
- Big headline puts your heading in huge letters across a slanted block. Change the Heading box to "Sunday lunch" or "Mogodu Monday" and that is what is shouted.
A Mogodu Monday and Sunday lunch poster, step by step
The example has three specials: mogodu with pap and chakalaka on Monday, a roast chicken Sunday lunch on Sunday, and a cold drink that costs extra with either plate, ticked for both days. Type the dish, the price and tap the days. The price can also be a deal in your own words, such as 2 for 1.
Tips
- The dish and the price are the poster. Everything else is smaller.
- Say the day in words, not as a date, so you can reuse the poster.
- Use the note box for "While stock lasts" if it is true. It saves arguments at two in the afternoon.
- Add a photo of the dish on a plate in daylight, from above. The Photo, Circle and Split looks are built round it.
- Post it on Status the morning of the special, and take it down when the special ends.
